The Day That Never Comes

I just finished listening to the new Metallica album Death Magnetic.  It really is a phenomenal album.  The one song that keeps running through my mind is track four The Day That Never Comes.  It’s such a powerful song.  Not just lyrically either.  The intro grabs you by the heart and keeps you wanting more the entire way through the song.  The solos are amazingly moving.  Apparently there is some debate as to what this song really is about.  The video has to do with the war but after reading the lyrics I believe that it could be about several things all involving a personal fight.  Several boards on the web are in quite a heated fight over this one.  Some think it’s about an abusive relationship and others think it’s about a bully in a person’s life.  I’ve posted the lyrics for you to decide on your own.  What do you think?

Born to push you around
better just stay down
you pull away
he hits the flesh
you hit the ground

mouth so full of lies
tender black, your eyes
just keep them closed
keep praying
just keep (a)waiting

waiting for the one
the day that never comes
when you stand up and feel the warmth
but the sunshine never comes, no
no, the sunshine never comes

push you cross that line
just stay down this time
hide in yourself
crawl in yourself
you’ll have your time

God I’ll make them pay
take it back one day
I’ll end this day
I’ll splatter color on this gray

waiting for the one
the day that never comes
when you stand up and feel the warmth
but the sunshine never comes

love is a four letter word
and never spoken in care
love is a four letter word
here in this prison

I suffer this no longer
I put it into
this I swear
this I swear
the sun will shine
this I swear
this I swear
this I swear
