If you haven’t checked out the singer Christina Perri you should take a few moments and do so. Her voice is lovely and her songs are moving. This one in particular has been on my mind for a little while now so I fought I’d share it with everyone. If you’ll remember, penguins mate for life making this song especially touching.

It’s Time!

Lots of life changes in these last few months for me.  I left a job surrounded by an amazing support system that I had known for six years.  I was baptized back into the single life.  I started the most rigorous doctorate program I never thought I’d be a part of yet somehow find myself enjoying the constant battle.

I’m lucky enough to have some of the greatest people in my life.  I get a “You can do it!” text when it’s most needed.  Or an equally well timed message telling me to hang in there and that there is faith in my being able to do this.  All of this means that I need short distractions.  Music is always around and always going through my head.  Which sometimes explains my random facial expressions and head-bobs that I get caught doing.

Shake Senora- Pitbull: First up is a song that surprised me to find out my lovely Mama liked.  Her mother was in town and we were playing a card game and had music playing.  This song came out of the speakers and I grinned as I knew it wasn’t going to go over well.  Boy was I wrong! Mom loved it. So it made the list of course.

No Woman No Cry- Bob Marley: When so much is going on a nice mellow song is always welcome.  This is my go-to song when a deep breath is  needed.

My Rifle, My Pony, and Me- Dean Martin, Ricky Nelson, and Walter Brennan: I know that I’m not the only person that has a favorite movie that is the perfect time out from time to time.  Rio Bravo is my movie of choice.  I love John Wayne and Dean Martin is a favorite anyway so how could this movie not be a favorite?

All That Jazz- Chicago: Yes, I know all the words and have for many years.  Is this a regular song that gets stuck in my head and do I have a hard time not belting it out at random with a roll of the shoulder and a hip thrust?….. um maybe.

Boondocks- Little Big Town: Yes, I like country along with all the other random things I listen to.  This on though gets me to remember that it’s all worth it.  I wouldn’t trade where I am for anything.

Riders on The Storm- The Doors: It wouldn’t by my list of absolutely great songs to mellow out to if I didn’t include one of my favorite Doors songs.  I have to live up to my Hippie nickname after all.
